The Problem We Solved
You wanted a proper outdoor fire. But where do you even start?
We've been there. Searching online, finding nothing that ships to New Zealand, or paying a premium for something that looks like it belongs in a suburban patio catalogue.
You wanted something with character. Something that looked right against a Hawke's Bay hill or a Waikato paddock. Something you could actually get your hands on without custom-commissioning a fabricator and waiting six months.
🔍
No easy way to buy online. Most steel fireplaces in NZ are sold through trade, require quotes, or need you to know a welder personally.
💸
Custom fabrication is expensive. One-off jobs run $3,000–$6,000+. You're paying for someone else's time to figure it out.
📦
Bulky products that don't ship. Most outdoor fireplaces are either cheap imported rubbish or impossible to transport.
🎨
No real design on offer. Everything looks generic. Nothing feels like it belongs to a place or a landscape.

Our Story
We just wanted a fire. Turns out, so did everyone else.
A few years ago we tried to buy a proper outdoor fireplace online. Something built from real steel, that would look at home against a Hawke's Bay hillside, that we could order without picking up the phone and navigating a three-week quote process.
It didn't exist. Not for New Zealand. Not at a price that made sense. And not in a form you could actually get delivered.
"We figured if we couldn't find it, plenty of others couldn't either. So we built it."
Peak Fires was built around a simple idea: great outdoor fireplaces should be accessible to anyone — not just people who know a fabricator or have a $5k budget. Design it well, cut it precisely, ship it flat, make it easy.

The Peak — Te Mata Silhouette
Signature Model
The Peak
From$1,800 NZD
Inspired by the Te Mata Peak ridgeline — Rongokako, the Sleeping Giant — cut directly into the steel body of the fireplace. Every time you light it, the silhouette glows against the flame.
This is a fixed design. The cutout is our interpretation of the peak ridge, refined over multiple iterations. It's not customisable — and that's intentional. When you see it burning, you'll understand why.

Steel Options
Mild Steel or Corten?
Both are tough. The difference is in how they look over time — and what suits your setting.
Mild Steel
The classic choice
Raw, industrial, honest. Mild steel starts dark and develops a natural patina with use. If you want the look of a working fireplace — something that earns its character — this is it. Seal or oil periodically to control surface rust if desired.
Corten Steel
The weathering steel
Corten develops a stable rust layer over time that actually protects the steel beneath. The result is a deep amber-to-chocolate patina that looks like it's been in the paddock for decades. Zero maintenance. Exceptional longevity outdoors.
The Origin
We just wanted a decent fire.
And we couldn't find one. So we built the company we wished existed.
The problem no one had solved
A few years back, a backyard project in Hawke's Bay led to a simple question: where do you buy a proper outdoor steel fireplace in New Zealand? Not a cheap imported thing from a big-box store. Not a $6,000 custom commission from a welder who needs a two-month lead time just to get back to you. A properly designed, solid steel fireplace that you could actually order without picking up the phone.
The search came up short every time. The options were either too small, too flimsy, too expensive, or simply not available to ship here. And every fabricator worth talking to wanted a custom brief, a deposit, a quote, a site visit, and about six weeks of back-and-forth before anything got cut.
There was no way to just buy a great outdoor fireplace online in New Zealand. We figured we weren't the only ones who'd hit that wall.
The idea behind Peak Fires
The concept was straightforward: design a small range of fireplaces that are genuinely good-looking, built from quality steel, and easy to order, receive, and set up. No middleman. No quote process. No mystery pricing. Just pick your model, configure it, pay a deposit, and we'll have it cut and shipped within a few weeks.
We're based in Hawke's Bay, and the landscape here is a big part of what we make. The Peak — our signature model — wears the ridgeline of Te Mata Peak (Rongokako) as a cutout in the steel. When you light it at night, the mountain glows with the fire behind it. It's not subtle. It's not supposed to be.
How we work
Every fireplace is designed by us and cut by a single trusted fabricator here in Hawke's Bay. We don't keep stock. Each unit is made to order, cut to your spec, and shipped flat-pack so it can travel safely anywhere in New Zealand.
We keep the range intentionally small. Two models, two sizes, two steel types. We'd rather do a few things well than offer a hundred options that dilute the quality of any of them.
This isn't a factory operation. It's a small, family-run business that builds things we'd be happy to have in our own backyard — and we think that shows.
Built in Hawke's Bay. Shipped anywhere in New Zealand. Yours for life.
